Biography

Winner of the national award for outstanding achievements in extracurricular activities

 

 

Completed my high school education with outstanding achievements. Won gold and silver medals as the best student in high school for the outstanding achievements in planning education and extracurricular activities in junior and senior level. Participated in international, national and institutional sports tournaments and won several championships, 1st, 2nd runners ups and awards.

 

 

Began my career as a Trainee designer, product developer and garment technologist at MAS Linea Aqua, Giridara, Sri Lanka. During this time specialist knowledge and experience were gained in swim wear development. Brands worked with include Calvin Klein, Speedo and Victoria’s Secrets.

 

 

Graduated from the University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka, specialising in fashion & textile design as major stream and graphics design as minor stream. Won the award for best student for that particular year. Won the best student medal awarded by The Textile Institute UK, Sri Lanka section. Won university colours for basketball. Started working for a leading apparel solutions company in Asia (Brandix), involving in design and developments, manufacturing and marketing garments for international brands.

 

Joined Orit apparel (PVT) LTD.  Worked in the product development for the brands M&S, Old Navy, GAP, Banana Republic, Levi’s, Next, Glo USA, Kenneth Cole, Jones New York, Gloria Vanderbilt, George, Denizen, River Island, C&A and Tommy Hilfiger. Specialised Denim and casual wear product categories.

 

 

Moved to United Kingdom where I started my postgraduate studies to extend my knowledge in the area of clothing product development at Manchester Metropolitan University. After 1 year I have successfully completed my post graduate studies with a Distinction and taking up new challenges as a freelance designer and product developer.  I was awarded the Vice-chancellor’s scholarship from Manchester Metropolitan University for the outstanding academic performance and successful career achievements.

 

 

Previous roles have enabled me to successfully gain an extensive range of experience in global fashion industry. Now, I am detailed and methodical in working with a key understanding of brand identity and positioning. My continuous ambition is to be an influential apparel designer, developer or garment technologist who constantly pushes the boundaries for new design, development, trends and technology.
